Tornados Come Up Short at No. 17 UT-Dallas

The Concordia University Texas women's basketball team came up short against No. 17 University of Texas-Dallas, 80-71, Monday evening at the UTD Activity Center. CTX (1-1, 1-1 ASC) received a game-high 22 points from #Kerrie Carter# and 16 points from freshman #Brianna Smith# in the loss.

Carter was 10-of-13 from the free throw line for the Tornados and 6-of-10 from the field overall. Smith was also 6-of-10 from the floor, including 1-of-2 from beyond the three-point arc and 3-of-3 at the free throw line.

CTX trailed by five points at the half. In the second half, CTX would take their only lead of the contest with 13:59 remaining. However, UT-Dallas (4-1, 2-0 ASC) would regain control of the contest and building as much as a nine-point lead.

The Tornados would cut the lead to three points with 5:09 left after junior guard #Ashley Coria# knocked down a three-pointer. The Comets would push the lead back to eight points (70-62) after Chelsea Edwards hit a lay-in. CTX would get only as close as four points in the final three minutes as Carter hit a free throw. UTD would pull away in the final minutes capped off by a pair of free throws from Edwards.

Edwards and Rachel Addison each scored 21 points to lead UTD in the win.

As a team, Concordia shot 41.2% (21-of-51) from the field, including 36.4% (4-of-11) from beyond the three-point line. The Tornados shot 80.6% (25-of-31) from the free throw line overall. The Comets shot 47.4% (27-of-57) from the field overall and just 23.5% (4-of-17) from beyond the three-point arc.

Concordia committed 25 turnovers overall and forced 23 Comet turnovers, including 16 in the first half alone.

The Tornados wrap up their current three-game road trip on Wed., Dec. 2, at the University of Dallas. The non-conference contest has a scheduled tip time of 7 p.m.
