Women's Basketball Overcomes 18-Point Deficit to Win by 10

AUSTIN, Texas --
The Concordia University Texas women's basketball team overcame an 18-point first-half deficit to defeat East Texas Baptist University, 83-73, Monday night at Concordia Fieldhouse.  Senior forward #Kerrie Carter# and freshman guard #Brianna Smith# each registered 16 points in the win.

The Tornados (3-2, 3-1 ASC) trailed 28-10 with 11:57 remaining in the first half.  However, ETBU (2-4, 1-3 ASC) would score only one field goal from that time until halftime, which allowed the Tornados to climb back into the contest.  CTX would tie the contest (42-42) with 41 seconds remaining in the first half as freshman guard #Margaret Milling# scored on a layup.  The Lady Tigers would reclaim the lead and take a two-point advantage into halftime as Kelsey Harris hit a pair of free throws.

In the second half, the Lady Tigers again built an early lead, this time leading by as much as eight points (53-45).  Concordia would tie the game again (60-60) with 10:46 left on the clock as Milling hit a free throw.  A free throw shot by Carter would give the Tornados their first lead (61-60) with 10:02 left. 

The Tornados would quickly push their lead to 10 points (76-66) behind the strength of a 15-6 run, which was capped off by an old-fashioned three-point play from Smith.

East Texas Baptist would get only as close as five points (78-73) in the closing minutes before the Tornados stretched the lead back to 10 (83-73) as Smith sealed the victory with a pair of free throws.

Despite trailing at halftime, the Tornados blistered the nets after shooting 63.6% (14-of-22) from the field in the first half.  Overall, CTX hit 49.1% (26-of-53) of its shots from the floor.

ETBU committed 25 turnovers on the night.  Satara Harrell led the Lady Tigers with 16 points.

Junior guard #Ashley Coria# chipped in 13 for CTX.  Milling scored 11 and junior forward #Jennifer Herman# netted 10 for Concordia.

The Tornados return to action on Thursday, Dec. 10 against Mary Hardin-Baylor at Concordia Fieldhouse.  Tip time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
