Concordia Stuns UMHB Again

Belton, TX- Jennifer Herman led the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team to a 71-68 victory, over the University of Mary Hardin Baylor on Tuesday night in Belton. The victory improves Concordia to 9-10 overall and 9-8 in the ASC while, Mary Hardin Baylor falls to 10-11 overall and 9-8 in the ASC. 

Going into half-time, Concordia trailed by three to the Cru, 40-37 after a closely contested first half. The Cru defense held Concordia leading scorer Kassandra Bills scoreless. 

In the second half of play Concordia's defense was the key as they forced 12 of the Cru's 21 turnovers in the second half. The game came down to the wire proving free throws crucial for the Tornados as they made 22-25 to secure the 71-68 victory. 

Leading the Tornados was Herman with 18 points followed by senior Kassandra Bills with 17 points along with 7 rebounds. Junior Jackie Eddins added 12 points. Concordia point guard Whitney Clancy led the Tornados on the night with 10 rebounds and 5 assists. 

The Cru was led by Landie Thompson with 15 points in the loss. 

As a team, Concordia shot 36 percent from the field and 88 percent from the free throw line. The Tornados forced 21 Cru turnovers even though they were out-rebounded 38 to 35. 

Concordia will be back in action against Schreiner University on Thursday night in Kerrville, TX where the opening tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm. This will be the second time that Concordia has taken on Schreiner this season. In the first match-up the Tornados took home the 77-56 victory.
