Concordia Splits Day One in Louisiana

PINEVILLE, LA. - The Concordia University Texas baseball team split a doubleheader Friday afternoon against Louisiana College in Pineville, Louisiana. In game one the Tornados got the 6-2 victory followed by a 9-4 loss in game two. 

In the game one, Concordia starting pitcher Michael Johnson (2-0) pitched a complete game, while allowing only four hits and striking out eight with no walks. Johnson picked up his second win of the season. 

The Tornados were helped with home runs from Adam Mann, with a solo home run in the second to score the game's first run. Senior Tom Williams, hit a two run homerun in the third inning, giving the Tornados a 3-0 lead. 

Concordia also scored two insurance runs in the fifth and a single run in the seventh inning. Louisiana College scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh, although it wasn't enough as Concordia clinched the 6-2 victory. 

Louisiana College starter Matt Long took the loss. 

In the second game, Concordia got on the board early scoring one run in the top of the first, although Louisiana College answered with two runs in the bottom of the first. 

Louisiana College then put together a three run frame in both the bottom of the fourth and sixth innings
Concordia rallied in the bottom of the ninth as they scored two runs and loaded the bases off the Louisiana college reliever. With two out Louisiana College brought in their closer for the final out of the 9-4 victory. 

Marcus Howell (1-1) picked up the win, allowing only two runs over six innings. Concordia's Matt Coburn (0-1) was given the loss after allowing eight runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings of work. 

Concordia will finish their three game series Saturday, with a single game beginning at noon.
