WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- For the third game in a row, the Concordia University Texas women's soccer team has remained out of the loss column after recording a scoreless tie with Southwestern Assemblies of God University Thursday afternoon.
Concordia Texas received a solid effort from freshman goalkeeper #Amanda Benton#, who made her collegiate debut.
"Amanda played very well today," said Concordia Texas head women's soccer coach Corey Holton. "She stepped up today and really held her ground. She was able to do what we asked of her and the result gave us a tie."
Benton wasn't the only Tornado defensive player to step up today as freshman defender #Kayla McDonald# received praise for her performance from Holton.
"Kayla really held down the defense for us today," said Holton. "She anchored our back line and came up with some big tackles, which allowed us to keep the game scoreless."
The Tornados' offense sputtered this afternoon as the team squandered several chances in the contest.
"We just weren't able to put it away today," Holton said. "We had plenty of chances and controlled the pace for most of the game, but we came up short where it counted."
The Tornados will return home to host Louisiana College on Thursday, Sept. 17 at Town & Country Optimist Soccer Fields. The two teams will kick off the American Southwest Conference season at 2 p.m.
