BELTON, Texas -- The Concordia University Texas women's basketball team dropped its fourth straight game with an 84-51 decision at the hands of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Monday night at the Mayborn Campus Center.
A shorthanded Tornados (5-8, 3-7 American Southwest Conference) club struggled on offense, shooting 32.7-percent (18-of-55) in the contest. CTX connected on only 26.1% of its shots (6-of-23) in the first half. Turnovers also handcuffed the Tornados in the first half as they turned the ball over 15 times. Overall, CTX committed 23 turnovers.
Mary Hardin-Baylor blistered the nets all night long to the tune of 47.5-percent (28-of-59), including 46.7% (14-of-30) in the first half. The Lady Cru were especiall deadly from behind the three-point line, shooting 50% (13-of-26) during the contest and 46.7% (7-of-15) in the first half.
#Margaret Milling# scored the first two points of the game after stealing the ball from Mallory McAdams and racing 70-feet for the lay-in. Lindsey Eaton tied the game at 2-2 after hitting a pair of free throws. CTX reclaimed the lead as #Brianna Smith# knocked down a jumper. Less than a minute later, Smith connected on a three-point attempt, which gave the Tornados a 7-2 lead. It was the last points for Concordia for over 12 minutes.
Mary Hardin-Baylor would claim an 8-7 lead with 16:45 left in the first half as Caitlin Barganier hit a three-pointer. The Lady Cru would not look back as they claimed complete control of the contest.
#Kerrie Carter# led the Tornados with 18 points in the game on 7-of-16 shooting from the field. #Deja Thomas# posted a career-best nine rebounds to go along with five points for CTX. Milling finished the contest with seven points, four assists and four steals. Smith netted 12 points in the loss.
Kallie White led the home team with 15 points.
The Tornados will return to Austin to take on Howard Payne University on Thursday, Jan. 14 at Concordia Fieldhouse. Tip time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
