AUSTIN, Texas -- The Concordia University Texas women's basketball team dropped their fifth straight game as No. 18 Howard Payne University defeated the Tornados (5-9, 3-7 ASC), 67-53, on Thursday night at Concordia Fieldhouse.
Freshman post #Skylar Lott# posted career highs in points (17) and rebounds (11) for Concordia. Lott scored 16 points from the field on 8-of-9 shooting and added one more at the free throw line.
Howard Payne (12-2, 8-2 ASC) had four players in double digits, led by Hope Hohertz's 12 points.
Both teams struggled on the offensive end of the court. The Yellow Jackets shot 36.5% (23-of-63), while the Tornados managed to shoot 35.5% (22-of-62) from the field. However, Concordia was without a three-point basket in the contest (0-of-6), while Howard Payne could only muster three made three-pointers on 22 chances (13.6%).
The Tornados trailed by only seven at halftime after trailing by as much as 17 in the first half. CTX would pull within six points (44-38) midway through the second half, but Howard Payne pushed the lead back up to double digits with seven consecutive points (51-38). The Tornados could only get as close as eight points the rest of the way as Howard Payne claimed the win.
#Kerrie Carter# added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Tornados .
CTX continues ASC play on Saturday as the Tornados host Sul Ross State University at 1p.m. in Concordia Fieldhouse.
