Women's Basketball Drops First Game of 2010 at UT Tyler

The Concordia University Texas women's basketball team dropped its first contest of 2010 after falling at the University of Texas-Tyler, 74-59, at the Herrington Patriot Center on Sunday afternoon.

CTX (5-5, 3-3 American Southwest Conference) was led by double-digit scoring outputs from #Kerrie Carter# (13) and #Jackie Eddins# (10).  #Brianna Smith# chipped in nine points and #Whitney Holdbrook# netted a career-best of seven points in the loss.

Carter scored the first basket of the game, but UT Tyler's (7-4, 5-1 ASC)  Afritina Anderson tied the game 19 seconds later.  The Patriots picked up a bucket from Cookie Domino at the 18:06 mark of the first half.  CTX would tie the game four times over the next four minutes, however, UT Tyler's Kirsti Wallace broke the tie after knocking down a jumper with 14:32 left in the first half, which signaled the last time these two teams would be this close.

UT Tyler would stretch its lead to as much as 12 points in the first half and would go on to lead by as much as 22 in the second half.

Concordia shot 36.5-percent (23-of-63) from the field, including 27.3-percent (3-of-11) from the three-point line.  The Tornados were outrebounded 61-35, including giving up 30 on the offensive glass, which led to 24 second-chance points for the Patriots.

The Tornados will return home on Thursday, Jan. 7, for a 5:30 p.m. tilt with Mississippi College at Concordia Fieldhouse.  The game with the Lady Choctaws will be carried live on the Tornados Sports Radio Network.
