AUSTIN, Texas --- The Concordia University Texas men's soccer team outshot the University of the Ozarks by a 23 to 11 margin Saturday, but were defeated 2-0 on Senior Day at St. Stephen's Field. CTX drops its fifth straight match to fall to (4-12-0, 2-9-0 ASC).
The Tornados put up a valiant effort, but came up short due to two goals from UO forward Francisco Garza. The University of the Ozarks (6-12-0, 4-8-0 ASC) struck first in the 14th minute, on a well-place shot from Garza.
Concordia countered with two good opportunities of its own, but shots from
Oscar Diaz and
Chase Michalak came up short, leaving CTX with a 1-0 deficit at the half.
In the second period the Tornados would fire shot after shot at Neil Thompson, only to see the UO goalkeeper turn away all 13 shots. Garza would score his second goal in the 58th minute, all but sealing the 2-0 Ozarks victory.
Concordia's
Piri Rabadan collected five shots while
Todd Edgington made six saves on the day.
CTX honored its senior class before the match with a special ceremony featuring the three seniors and their families. Each was presented with a framed game jersey and picture.
Oscar Diaz has made starts in all four years he has been with the program, and has scored 17 career points.
James Waltz transferred to the program this year to play with his brother Mat, and has scored four points while making five starts. Second-team All-ASC selection
Mathew Waltz made his 29th career start Saturday, and is currently second on the team this year with seven points.
The Tornados will finish up its 2010 season this week as the team travels to Mississippi and Louisiana College. CTX will face Mississippi (9-4-0, 6-3-0 ASC) Thursday at 3:00 p.m. and will then face Louisiana (0-14-0, 0-9-0 ASC) at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
