AUSTIN, Texas --- The Concordia Texas men's soccer team were edged by Schreiner University 1-0 Saturday by a goal from SU forward Taylor Bontz in the 57th minute.
At a field where the CTX women's team is finding opportunities at a premium, the men's team is finding a reverse fortune as the Tornados faced a host of tough circumstances Saturday at St. Stephen's Field. Schreiner (6-3-2, 3-1-1 ASC) collected its only goal on a throw-in that slipped through the hands of CTX goalkeeper
Jacob Stern and to the waiting foot of Taylor Bontz who zipped it into the back of the net for the 1-0 Schreiner victory.
Concordia (3-7-0, 1-5-0 ASC) was able to come across a few good looks down the stretch as an
Oscar Diaz effort was blocked by SU goalkeeper Tim Martinez and a shot from
Piri Rabadan just missed wide left to allow Schreiner to escape with the 1-0 victory.
The Tornados fired 16 shots in the match (six on goal) while the Mountaineers collected 17 shots (four on goal).
Sebastian Parra and
Gary Grossman led the way offensively recording five and four shots respectively for Concordia. CTX goalkeeper
Jacob Stern took the tough luck loss recording three saves including a key block in the beginning of the second period that upheld a 0-0 tie.
The Tornados will be on the road in the upcoming week as the team faces East Texas Baptist on October 8th at 2:00 p.m. and LeTourneau on the 9th in a match starting at 4:00 p.m.
