BROWNWOOD, Texas -- A slow first half start by the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team resulted in a 73-55 loss versus Howard Payne University on Thursday evening. Concordia (8-16, 6-14 ASC) made only seven field goals in the first half, resulting in 18 points by halftime.
Howard Payne (19-5, 15-5 ASC) eventually took advantage of the slow start by the Tornados and pulled away in the contest. The Yellow Jackets held an 11-point halftime advantage (29-18). However, in the second half, Howard Payne opened up the final frame with a 12-6 run, pushing its lead to 17 points (41-24). Concordia would fall behind by as much as 20 in the contest.
The Tornados shot 36-percent from the field in the contest. Concordia had only two players score in double digits, led by senior forward #Kerrie Carter#'s 20 points. Freshman guard #Julia Bellquist# added 11. Freshman post #Skylar Lott# netted seven points and grabbed six rebounds.
Howard Payne shot 45-percent in the game, including blistering the nets to the tune of 57-percent in the second half. Roshonda Gayden and Brittany Zamora each tallied 18 points to lead the Yellow Jackets.
The Tornados will close out their regular season with a conference contest at Sul Ross State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
