ALPINE, Texas -- 25 games are in the book for the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team and the 2009-10 season. Concordia (9-16, 7-14 ASC) wrapped up its season on Saturday afternoon with a 68-56 win over Sul Ross State University at the Pete P. Gallego Center. Senior forward #Kerrie Carter# led the way with a double-double, posting a career-high 27 points and 12 rebounds.
The Tornados used their hot-shooting three-point hands in the first half to jump out to a 10-point halftime lead (38-28). CTX shot 53.8% (7-of-13) from beyond the arc, which helped the Tornados shoot 36.1% (13-of-36) overall in the first half. The second half wasn't as kind to Concordia, as the Tornados hit only 26.3% (10-of-38) of their shots and were without a three-point bucket (0-for-10). Overall, Concordia would shoot 31.1%.
Sul Ross State (2-23, 2-19 ASC) did not have a good shooting performance on Saturday as the Tornados limited the Lady Lobos to 28.3% (15-of-53) shooting from the field in the game.
The Tornados outrebounded the Lady Lobos, 59-38. It was the highest total number of rebounds for Concordia in program history.
Carter, who was the game-high scorer, achieved a personal milestone by going over the 1,000 point mark for her collegiate career, which started at Schreiner University. Carter wraps up her career as a Tornado after scoring 743 points, the 11th most in program history. Overall, Carter netted 1,017 points in her collegiate career.
Freshmen guards #Brianna Smith# and #Julia Bellquist# also recorded double digits in the win for CTX, scoring 13 and 11 points, respectively. Bellquist knocked down a team-high three three-pointers against the Lady Lobos.
Liz Pereyra led the Lady Lobos with 18 points and 10 boards.
The Tornados close out their regular season with wins in the finale for the second straight season, both under head coach Steve Cochran.
