AUSTIN, Texas
-- The Concordia University Texas women's soccer team showed off an array of offensive firepower in their home debut as five Tornados scored goals in a 7-0 win against Southwestern Assemblies of God Saturday evening.

CTX gets their first win of the season improving to 1-2 as Southwestern Assemblies of God falls to 1-5 on the year.

In front of a nice home crowd the Tornados showed a high sense of urgency as they scored their first goal just five minutes into the match and later added four more in the first period. Freshman Taylor Franklin picked up a pass from Axita Patel just outside the left box and put it over the goalkeeper's head to give CTX a 1-0 lead. Chastity Carrillo was then able sneak into the middle of the SAGU defense and drill home a shot into the left corner of the net making it 2-0 Concordia.

Briana Alston made the score 3-0 as she guided a shot just past the outstretched hands of the diving goalkeeper at the 21 minute mark. Lya Morfitt took over from there as the senior's constant energy allowed her to pick up two goals to give CTX a 5-0 advantage at the break.

Goals from Chelsea Lopez and Chastity Carillo completed the scoring for the Tornado ending the match in a 7-0 win. Picking up assists in the contest were Axita Patel, Briana Alston, Jamie Watson, Hilary Wagner, and Lya Morfitt.

In all, four newcomers scored their first collegiate goal while three more scored the first collegiate point in their young careers. For the match CTX registered 35 shots including 20 shots on goal. The play from the mid-field was just as impressive for the Tornados as they limited SAGU to three shots.

Tracy Griffin registered 20 saves for Southwestern Assemblies of God on the evening as Concordia's Tyler Steinbach picked up her first shutout of the year making one save.

Concordia will open up ASC conference play later next week when they host Hardin-Simmons and McMurry University on September 16th and 18th. Game times are set for 2:00 and 12:00 p.m.
