AUSTIN, Texas -- The Tornados gave up four straight goals after holding a 1-0 advantage, as they lost 4-2 in non-conference action against Austin College Sunday afternoon.
The loss evens up Concordia's record at 2-2-0 while Austin College brings its record to 2-2-1.
CTX showed good energy early as
Piri Rabadan put a header on goal at the five minute mark that was deflected out of bounds by The Roo's goalkeeper. Concordia found its first goal of the match 20 minutes later as
Mathew Waltz made a cross from the left sideline that found
Oscar Diaz at the top of the 18 yard box who drilled it low into the back of the net for a 1-0 CTX lead.
At the 37 minute mark Austin College's Joey Alcocer was fighting for a loose ball when he got tangled up with CTX defender
John Ricks and went down to the ground. Moments later Alcocer was awarded a penalty kick and put it off the hands of Tornado goalkeeper
Jacob Stern and into the goal to tie the game.
The second period was all Austin College as the Roo's controlled the possession and were able to find open seams in the CTX defense allowing them to collect 8 shots and score 3 goals in a 20 minute time span. Austin College was up 4-1 until
James Waltz settled a ball from
John Ricks and drilled a shot perfectly into the top right corner of the net.
In the 4-2 loss Concordia was outshot 14 to 11 and it was the first time all season the Tornados have given up more than one goal in a match.
The Concordia men will open up their American Southwest Conference schedule this Thursday as they host Hardin-Simmons University at 4:00 p.m.
