AUSTIN, Texas --- The Concordia University Texas Women's soccer team scored two goals in the first ten minutes, then tacked on four more in a convincing 6-1 victory against Huston-Tillotson University in non-conference action at St. Stephen's Field Monday.
The victory improves CTX's record to (3-3-0, 1-1-0 ASC) while Huston-Tillotson drops to 3-4-1, 0-0-0 RRC) for the year.
There was no shortage of energy Monday for a Concordia squad playing their third match in five days as the Tornados went off for 21 shots, including a hat trick by Chastity Carrillo.
CTX took a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute when Carrillo took a lob from Taylor Franklin and shot it past the diving HTU goalkeeper for a goal. Hilary Wagner and Dalaine Whitlock then executed back-to-back corner kicks as the duo served up perfect balls to Taylor Franklin and Chastity Carillo to give CTX a 3-0 edge.
After a Chelsea Lopez goal it was more Carrillo as the freshman from El Paso scored her third goal of the match making her the third American Southwest Conference player to record a hat trick in the last week of play. Jessi Gofinch then collected her first collegiate goal when she scored from 23 yards out to cap off the 6-1 victory.
Scoring for Huston-Tillotson was Helen Rios as HTU only managed six shots in the contest. Concordia's Tyler Steinbach and Vanesa Sierra spilt time in goal as the freshmen made one save apiece.
The team will look to continue their strong play as they take on Howard Payne and Mary Hardin-Baylor Friday & Saturday. These two matches will be instrumental in their quest to climb up the ASC West standings as the top four teams in each divison qualify for the ASC conference tournament.
