Olivia Jablinski made eight saves for the Tornados, but Emily Hughes found the back of the net in the 26th minute to lift Texas-Dallas over Concordia University Texas, 1-0, in American Southwest Conference women's soccer action on Thursday, Oct. 20 at the UTD Soccer Complex. Concordia had its seven-match winning streak snapped and its shutout streak, the second-longest in the league this season, end at a mark of 726:29.
In a battle for second place in the ASC standings behind reigning national champion Hardin-Simmons, Texas-Dallas (12-3, ASC 10-1) was able to get the only goal they would need when Hughes unleashed a shot from 25 yards out that landed in the back of the net. It was the first goal surrendered by Concordia's defense since Sept. 22.
Concordia looked to net the equalizer early in the second half when
Axita Patel took a shot on net, but goalkeeper Brittany Best came away with the save to keep the Comets ahead. Jablinski made four saves in the frame to keep the Tornados within striking distance, but the visitors could not come away with the equalizer and suffered their first defeat in nearly a month.
Concordia's Jablinski made eight saves on 19 opportunities in the losing effort. Texas-Dallas' Best turned away one of the two shots she faced to earn her league-leading eighth shutout.
Concordia (10-5, ASC 7-3), which dropped into a tie for fourth in the standings, continues ASC action when it visits Ozarks on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m.
