Austin, Texas
– Senior defender Hilary Wagner matched a program standard by notching her eighth career assist and helped anchor a back line which extended its school-record shutout streak to 430:40 as the Concordia University Texas women's soccer team recorded a 1-0 victory over East Texas Baptist on Thursday, Oct. 6 at St. Stephen's. The Tornados won their fourth match in a row for the first time ever.

Concordia (7-4-0, ASC 5-2-0), which defeated the Tigers for the first time in 10 tries, took control from the opening kick and had its chances to go ahead early. Chastity Carrillo almost one-touched the ball past Cristine Aquino, who entered the day leading all American Southwest Conference netminders in goals against average and save percentage, off a cross and was also robbed from point-blank range in the 33rd minute by the senior.

In the 37th minute, however, the Tornados were able to break through with the only goal they would need. Wagner started the play from the right side by lobbing the ball to Kendall Williams, who was at the top of the box. The freshman than made a move to her right and beat the goalkeeper before finishing with a shot on the open net. It was the first goal scored against the Tigers in five conference matches.

Concordia continued to apply pressure in the second half, outshooting East Texas Baptist (7-2-1, ASC 4-1-0) by a 10-4 count in the final 45 minutes. Even though the hosts could not add to their lead, the back line consisting of Lauren Browning, Elizabeth Evangelista, Dalaine Whitlock and Wagner came through by not allowing the Tigers to attempt a shot on the net throughout the entire match to help preserve the victory.

Concordia's Olivia Jablinski earned her fourth straight shutout victory and fifth overall without having to make a save. East Texas Baptist's Aquino suffered the loss despite making eight saves on 19 opportunities.

Concordia will look to extend its winning streak to five straight matches when it hosts LeTourneau on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 5:30 p.m. The match will be played at Vandegrift High School's Monroe Stadium.
