Austin, TexasShamika Singleton scored 12 points and Margaret Milling added seven assists in leading the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team to a 65-42 victory over rival Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday, Dec. 10 at the CTX Field House. The Tornados, who have won their games by an average margin of 20.6 points, are off to a 5-0 start for the first time as an American Southwest Conference and NCAA Division III member.

Concordia nearly led from wire-to-wire and went up quickly courtesy of a Brianna Smith 3-pointer on the game's first possession. Mary Hardin-Baylor came back and took its only lead at 4-3 following a good jumper by Javona Miles, but the Tornados responded by getting a trifecta from Paige Parrish and never trailed again.

Mary Hardin-Baylor (1-6, ASC 1-3) tied the game two more times in the opening half with a Gabby Guzman layup tying the game at 13 apiece. Concordia, however, went on a 12-1 run and did not allow a field goal for more than five minutes to pull ahead by double digits. A layup by Singleton following Tiesha Martin's free throw made it 30-20 at recess.

Milling immediately stole the ball and converted a 3-pointer on her squad's following possession to give Concordia a quick 33-20 lead at the 19:43 mark of the second half. A layup by Miles cut the deficit to single digits at 37-28, but the Tornados responded with seven unanswered to stay ahead by double figures the rest of the way. Christen McLee capped the run with a layup.

Concordia continued to pour it by utilizing the depth it has in its lineup against Mary Hardin-Baylor's starters and top reserves. Madison Kramr and Jessie Pittman each canned jump shots to balloon the lead to as many as 24 points before a Kramr layup produced the final 65-42 outcome.

Singleton led Concordia in scoring and rebounding with 12 and seven, respectively. She also added three assists, three steals and two blocks. Milling continues her torrid start with the league's best assist-to-turnover ratio by accumulating seven assists and committing just one turnover. The junior also had five points and four steals. Smith netted all nine of her points by hitting three shots from beyond the arc.

Miles paced Mary Hardin-Baylor with a team-leading 11 points to go along with eight boards. Guzman contributed seven points and seven rebounds, while Cortney Poncik finished with eight points.

Concordia (5-0, ASC 4-0) will break for final exams and then look to continue its torrid start when it hosts Mississippi College on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 1 p.m.
