Belton, Texas
– Braden Embry finished 2-for-2 with six RBI and three runs scored to lead Mary Hardin-Baylor to a 12-5 victory over Concordia University Texas in a non-conference baseball game on Saturday, Feb. 19 at Red Murff Field.

Mary Hardin-Baylor (1-5), which is among the teams receiving votes in the D3baseball.com national poll, jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Embry clubbed a grand slam to start the scoring before Seth Lynn followed with an RBI single three batters later.

Concordia (3-4) added a pair of runs in the top of second. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Nolan McClosky grounded into a double play that plated Collin Janssen. Nick Kozole, who had two of the four Tornado hits, singled in Robert Brown on the next play.

After the Cru added two more runs in the bottom of the second, the Tornados continued to chip away at the deficit by adding one run in the third and fourth frames and another in the seventh to make it a 6-5 game. Robert Brown brought home two of the runs on sacrifice flies to center. Concordia, however, would come no closer as the bullpen continued to struggle by yielding four more runs in the seventh and another two in the eighth which sealed the final 12-5 outcome.

Sean Thompson was tagged with the loss for Concordia and fell to 0-1 on the young season after yielding six hits and five runs which were all earned in only one inning of work. Chance Ryan picked up the victory and improved to 1-1 by striking out four Tornado hitters and allowing two hits and three runs which were all earned in three innings.

Concordia will trek to Marshall to visit East Texas Baptist for a three-game series beginning on Friday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m.
