Marshall, Texas – Justin Beasley hit a three-run double in the fourth inning to begin a comeback as the Concordia University Texas baseball team rallied to defeat East Texas Baptist, 13-6, on Friday, Feb. 25 at Woods Field. The Tornados scored 13 unanswered runs in the last six innings to register their fourth win of the season.
East Texas Baptist (3-4) got to
Colin Butschek early and often, plating six runs in the first three innings. A three-run homer by KC Carroll gave the Tigers a 5-0 lead after two before a sacrifice popup by Michael Cox in the third made it a six-run affair.
Concordia (4-4), however, came back by scoring five runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a 12-6 lead. With two outs in the fourth, Beasley hit a bases-clearing double to spark the offense and make it 6-5.
Nick Kozole hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to tie the game at 6-all before a two-run single to left by
Brent Schaekel put the visitors ahead for good. Beasley, Kozole and
Colton Gommert all had hits that plated insurance runs in the middle innings before
Collin Janssen closed out the scoring with a solo shot over the fence in the top of the ninth.
Butschek improved to 1-1 after being credited with the victory for Concordia. He allowed eight hits and six runs, including five earned, while fanning seven batters in seven innings of work.
Sean Thompson hurled two scoreless innings of relief. East Texas Baptist''s Chad Cox dropped to 0-2 on the season by allowing eight hits and eight runs, including seven earned over 4.1 frames.
Concordia and East Texas Baptist will wrap up a three-game set in Marshall with a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m.
