Pitcher Colin Butschek’s Gem on the Mound Leads Baseball to 7-0 Victory Over Ozarks

Colin Butschek hurled seven scoreless innings in leading the Concordia University Texas baseball team to a 7-0 victory over Ozarks on Friday, March 4 at Tornado Field. The Tornados also got 10 hits from 10 different players en route to registering their fourth win in their last five games.

Concordia (7-5) scored three times in the bottom of the first with two outs and never looked back as Sam Brownwood threw four wild pitches and issued two walks in the frame. Robert Brown delivered a two-run single to third which was the Tornados' only hit of the frame, to plate Brent Schaekel and Matt McManemin. The first baseman later made it home to make it a 3-0 game by advancing on two wild pitches thrown by Brownwood.

After scoring another run in the third, Concordia added two insurance tallies in the sixth to go ahead by a 6-0 score. C.J. Riojas tripled to right center and scored one play later on a Kyle Bieschke single through the left side. The Tornados got two pinch hits in the eighth, capped by an RBI single by Kris Pearce, to produce the final outcome and deal Ozarks (2-12) its 10th straight defeat.

Butschek improved to 2-1 overall by registering five strikeouts, allowing three hits and not issuing any walks or seven scoreless innings for Concordia. Gerry Morrison hurled two strong innings of relief, yielding one hit while ringing up one batter. Brownwood fell to 1-2 after taking the loss. He allowed six hits and six runs, including three earned, and struck out five.

Concordia and Ozarks will wrap up a three-game set with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 5 at 1 p.m.
