Austin, Texas
– The Concordia University Texas baseball team will trek to Abilene, Texas to face Linfield in the NCAA Division III West Regional on Wednesday, May 18 at 12 p.m. at McMurry University's Walt Driggers Field. The Tornados, who are seeded sixth, and the top-seeded Wildcats will also be joined by Chapman, Redlands, Trinity and Texas-Tyler in the six-team field which will use a double-elimination format from May 18-21.

Concordia (30-15), which has doubled last season's win total, automatically qualified for the regional by capturing its second American Southwest Conference Championship crown in program history with a 6-4 victory over host Texas-Dallas on May 8. The Tornados, who advanced to the College World Series in their only other NCAA appearance in 2002, have won five straight and 14 of their last 17 games by using a balanced offensive attack to go along with stellar pitching and defense. Concordia only committed one error defensively and had nine players combine for 12 stolen bases, which included having six different players recording a theft in the title game, in the team's three victories during the championship round. Second-year head coach Tommy Boggs' club has batted .340 as a team in six postseason games with 10 Tornados recording multiple hits and eight having driven in at least two runs, while the pitching staff has a 1.42 earned run average and has blanked two opponents during the same stretch.

Linfield (31-9), which is ranked fifth in the country in both the D3baseball.com/NCBWA and ABCA/Collegiate Baseball National Polls, will be Concordia's first opponent. Fourth-year head coach Scott Brosius, a three-time World Series Champion with the New York Yankees as a player and the Most Valuable Player of the 1998 World Series, piloted the Wildcats to their third Northwest Conference crown in four years and an automatic berth in the field. The program hosted and won the West Regional in 2010, its second in three seasons, to advance to the World Series before coming within two victories of winning the national championship.

Abilene is one of eight sites of the 55-team NCAA Division III Baseball Regional Championship field. Six teams will compete at four regional sites, seven teams will compete at one regional site and eight teams will compete at three regional sites. All regionals will use a double-elimination format.

For information on tickets, call McMurry's ticket office at 325.793.4633. Tickets will be $6 per day for adults and $4 for students and senior citizens.

The eight regional champions will advance to the College World Series, hosted by Lawrence University, from May 27-31 at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wis.
