BOX SCORE
Seguin, Texas –
Axita Patel and
Lena New each found the back of the net in leading the Concordia University Texas women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Texas Lutheran on Friday, Sept. 30 at Gustafson Field. The Tornados registered their second straight shutout victory and third overall this season.
Concordia (5-4, ASC 3-2), which outshot the Bulldogs 11-0 in the first half and 21-2 in the match, needed less than six minutes to get on the board.
Kendall Williams found Patel, who fired a shot from the top of the box that landed in the right corner of the net. It marked the second straight match that Patel netted the eventual game-winning tally.
In the second half, New was able to double the Tornado lead when she kicked in a rebound off a Williams shot that was initially saved by Bulldog goalkeeper Devin Walton. The tally gave the visitors all the insurance they needed to hang on for the win.
Concordia's
Olivia Jablinski registered her second straight clean sheet and third this fall by making one save on two chances. The goalkeeper and her back line led by starters
Lauren Browning,
Elizabeth Evangelista,
Hilary Wagner and
Dalaine Whitlock ended the day having not surrendered a goal in 250:40. Texas Lutheran's (2-6, ASC 2-2) Walton suffered the loss after making six stops on 15 opportunities. She was relieved in the 64th minute by Devin Crump, who turned away three of the six shots she faced the rest of the way.
Concordia visits Schreiner tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
Note: Concordia's men's and women's soccer teams and volleyball squad combined to post a 3-0 ledger on the same day for the first time in school history ... The men's soccer team also earned a 2-0 road victory over Texas Lutheran, while CTX volleyball outlasted Mississippi College in five sets at McMurry.
