BOX SCORE

Austin, Texas
– Sophomore Chastity Carrillo broke a scoreless deadlock and a school record midway through the second half and classmate Axita Patel netted an insurance tally later in the frame to lift the Concordia University Texas women's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout win over Huston-Tillotson on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at St. Stephen's.

After a scoreless first half that was dominated by Concordia, the hosts were able to break through with the first goal of the match in the 72nd minute of action. Junior co-captain Amanda Tarpley evaded several Ram defenders and unleashed a shot from the top of the box that was initially deflected by goalkeeper April Taylor. Carrillo, however, was in the right spot to punch in the rebound to the left side of the net. Tarpley was credited with her first career helper, while Carrillo broke the all-time school record for game-winning goals by recording her fifth on the play.

Despite being outshot by a 28-8 count in the match, Huston-Tillotson (1-2) had its chances to get on the scoreboard and hit the post twice. But the back line consisting of Lauren Browning, Elizabeth Evangelista, Hilary Wagner, Dalaine Whitlock was able to keep the Rams off the board while allowing the visitors to take one shot on net the entire 90 minutes. Patel put the match away with under a minute remaining when she took a pass from Adrianne Ambrosy and beat Taylor with a low shot that dribbled into the back of the net.

Olivia Jablinski earned her first career shutout and victory between the posts by making one save on eight opportunities for Concordia, which also held a commanding 9-0 advantage in corner kicks. Taylor took the loss for Huston-Tillotson, stopping 13 of the 28 shots she faced.

Concordia (1-2) will wrap up non-conference play when it visits Austin College on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m.
