Preston Baker and
Joakim Coleman each scored second-half goals, but the Concordia University Texas men's soccer team fell to Texas-Dallas by a 3-2 decision in overtime on Saturday, Oct. 13 at St. Stephen's.
After a scoreless first half, Baker put the Tornados on the board in the 52nd minute when he fired a shot to the top right corner of the net from 25 yards out.
Sebastian Parra was credited with an assist on the play. Shortly afterwards,
Pep Rangel was tripped up in the box and
Joakim Coleman converted a penalty shot to double the Tornado lead at 2-0.
Texas-Dallas (9-4, ASC 8-1), however, rallied and was able to force overtime by answering with two scorews of their own. Jordan Rubel scored off a corner kick in the 63rd minute of action before Michael Darrow tied the score by rocketing a shot through traffic to the far post in the 78th. Robert Lopez was later able to complete the rally by finding the back of the net in the 96th minute to give the Comets the sudden victory.
Nick Martin of Concordia made three saves on 15 opportunities in the losing effort. Texas-Dallas' Steven Nicknish turned away six of the 18 shots he faced to pick up the victory.
Concordia (3-9-1, ASC 2-6) will hit the road to face Louisiana College on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
