BOX SCORE
Austin, Texas –
Pep Rangel recorded a goal and an assist in a span of 1:39 to help propel the Concordia University Texas men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Howard Payne on Friday, Oct. 26 at Town & Country.
Concordia (4-11-1, ASC 3-8) scored a pair of goals less than two minutes apart to take control shortly before the midway point of the first half. Rangel sent a pass from the left side back to
Nathan Tjon-Joe-Pin, and the freshman finished the play by firing a shot to the far post in the 20th minute. Shortly after the ensuing kickoff, Rangel one-touched a
Matt Ruhe cross that came from the right side to double the Tornado lead.
Trailing 2-0 at the break, Howard Payne (3-10-2, ASC 1-9-1) cut the deficit in half in the 79th minute when Kevin Ruiz finished a pass from Shay Pate. Concordia, however, recovered and got an insurance tally from
Sebastian Parra, who capitalized on a failed clear attempt by the Yellow Jacket defense in the 83rd minute of action.
Kyle Duncan of Concordia earned the victory by making six saves on 18 chances. Howard Payne's Lance Forehand only turned away two of the 20 shots he faced in the losing effort.
Concordia will wrap up its 2012 season when it hosts Hardin-Simmons tomorrow afternoon at 7 p.m. at Town & Country. Seniors
Chase Michalak,
Sebastian Parra and
Alec Kemnitz will be recognized for their contributions to the program prior to the match.
