BOX SCORE
Austin, Texas –
Jordan James headed home her 10th goal of the season in leading the Concordia University Texas women's soccer team to a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Howard Payne on Friday, Oct. 26 at Town & Country. With the victory, the Tornados moved up to fourth in the American Southwest Conference standings.
Concordia dominated the first half by outshooting the visitors 11-3 and had a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Nicole Henderson put the Tornados on the board in the 28th minute by finishing short pass from
Lena New from inside the box.
Howard Payne (5-9, ASC 5-6), however, came out of the break firing and controlled the second frame by outshooting the hosts by a 13-3 margin through the remainder of regulation. Haley Clanahan warded off a CTX defender and lobbed the ball over goalkeeper
Olivia Jablinski into the upper 90 of the net.
After a scoreless extra session, the Tornados took advantage of a free kick from just outside the box to come away with the victory.
Chastity Carrillo shot the ball off the crossbar, and James used her height advantage to head in the rebound in the 104th minute. It was James' fourth game-winning tally, including her second golden goal in a second overtime, while Carrillo broke a single-season program record by notching her eighth assist on the play.
Jablinski picked up the victory for Concordia, which is already guaranteed a spot in next week's ASC Tournament. She made five saves on 19 opportunities. Howard Payne's Adrienne Walker suffered the loss despite making nine stops on 17 chances.
Concordia (9-4-3, ASC 7-2-2) will wrap up the regular season when it hosts third-ranked Hardin-Simmons tomorrow afternoon at 5 p.m. at Town & Country. Seniors
Dalaine Whitlock,
Amanda Tarpley and Jablinski will be recognized for their contributions prior to the match.
