Austin, Texas – Alec Kemnitz scored his first career goal, but the Concordia University Texas men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 setback in double overtime against Hardin-Simmons on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Town & Country. Kemnitz and classmates
Chase Michalak and
Sebastian Parra were each recognized for their contributions to the program prior to the match.
The first two goals that were scored in regulation were unassisted. Zach Johnson put Hardin-Simmons (9-6-1, ASC 7-4-1) on the board first when he won a ball in the box through heavy traffic and fired a shot past Tornado goalkeeper
Kyle Duncan in the 11th minute.
Concordia (4-12-1, ASC 3-9), however, fought back and was able to force overtime when Kemnitz sent the ball to the near post through a scramble of players with under two minutes left in regulation. It was the senior's first career goal.
But even though the Tornados had the momentum, which included outshooting the Cowboys 2-0 in the first extra session, the visitors were able to find a way to win their second match in as many days in double overtime. Dustin Beal received a throw in from Brennan Goodman and shot the ball to the back of the net to give the Cowboys the sudden victory.
Concordia is slated to return 24 letterwinners, including nine starters and 2011 All-American Southwest Conference First Team selection
Mohamed Diallo, next season.
