Men’s Soccer Falls in Non-Conference Action to Southwestern

Thomas Houlton scored his second goal of the season, but the Concordia University Texas men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to Southwestern in non-conference action on Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Southwestern (8-5) got on the board first and scored the only goal of the opening half. After the ball was stolen away from the Tornado defense, Evan Perkins received a pass from Marco Alcocer and gently placed a shot to the right post. Alcocer and Evan Javors were credited with assists.

Concordia (2-7-1) took advantage of a Pirate foul to tie the match up in the 63rd minute, as Thomas Houlton sent a rocket off a wall of Southwestern defenders that landed in the net. The Pirates, however, was able to break the tie in the 74th minute on a corner kick opportunity that was finished by Ryan Staten.

Kyle Duncan of Concordia made five saves on 16 chances in the losing effort. Southwestern's Daniel Poole had seven saves on 14 opportunities to earn the win.

Concordia returns to league action to face Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton on Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.
