POSTGAME INTERVIEW WITH RUSTY RAINBOLT, MADISON KRAMR AND MADI HESS
Austin, Texas – Sophomore
Madison Kramr recorded a career-best 13 points, which included perfect shooting from long range, and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team to an 84-72 victory over LeTourneau on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the CTX Field House. Classmate
Madi Hess scored in twin figures for the second straight game, as the Tornados claimed CTX Tip-Off Classic title by finishing the weekend undefeated.
Concordia (2-0), which had 13 players score, led from wire to wire and tallied the first six points as well as eight of the first 10 to set the tone. Four different players scored the first eight points, which was capped by layups coming from
Sara Byrd and
Casey Wallace.
The Tornados were able to go ahead by double figures for the first time when Brittany Houhle finished her own miss to make it 27-17 before
Paige Parrish stole the ball and drove in for a fastbreak layup on the next play at the 6:54 mark.
Tyler Compton later set up Houle for a layup to extend the margin to 13 before
DJ Vallier closed out the scoring in the frame by making one of two free throw attempts.
Concordia, which led 39-29 at halftime, stayed on fire to start the second and ballooned its lead to 15 on a three-point play by
Domonique Liddell that created a 44-29 score. LeTourneau's Andrea Ashley stopped the bleeding momentarily by converting a layup on the next play, but a Hess free throw followed by a
Brianna Smith trey with 17:21 remaining put the hosts in cruise control and ahead 49-33. LeTourneau came no closer than eight points the rest of the way.
Kramr's team-high 13 points for Concordia came by shooting 4-for-6 from the field, 3-for-3 from long range and 2-fo-2 from the line. She also matched a career best by grabbing six boards. Hess contributed 10 points, three steals and two assists. Houle added nine points, five rebounds and three blocks in just nine minutes of action off the bench.
LeTourneau (1-1) was led by Ashley Fajardo and Ashley. Both players scored 14 points apiece, while Ashley also had six boards and four steals. Jessica Manas finished with 12 points, three assists and three steals.
Concordia will visit St. Edward's, an NCAA Division II school, on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m.
