Madison Kramr and
Briona Chatman each contributed 13 points apiece in reserve roles in leading the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team to a convincing73-46 victory over LeTourneau in the American Southwest Conference opener for both schools on Thursday, Nov. 29 at the CTX Field House. The Tornados cruised to the win by getting 51 points from their bench.
Jessica Manas scored the first four points of the game and LeTourneau (1-2, ASC 0-1) took an early 6-2 lead in the opening three minutes by getting a layup from Andrea Ashley. Concordia, however, fought back and went ahead 9-7 when
Madison Kramr canned a 3-pointer at the 14:08 mark and never trailed for the remainder of the contest
After Ashley finished a pass from Alexis Wighaman to tie the score at 11, Concordia rattled off 13 unanswered and stayed in control the rest of the way.
Katherine Frost sparked the run with a layup and
Briona Chatman contributed seven straight points during the stretch. A
Tyler Compton steal and layup on a fastbreak gave the Tornados a 20-point cushion with under a minute remaining in the opening frame before Ashley closed out the scoring on the other end in the waning seconds to make it 41-23 at the recess.
Concordia (3-1, ASC 1-0) continued to ignite offensively in the second half and found itself ahead 60-36 after
Cecilee Perez converted a 3-point play the old-fashioned way. The lead ballooned to as many as 28 points thanks to a trey by
Brianna Smith, and the Tornados kept their foot on the gas pedal until Kramr scored the game's final basket in the final minute by finishing a pass from
Madi Hess.
Kramr and Chatman each contributed 13 points off the bench by shooting 6-for-8 from the field and making one shot from downtown for Concordia. Kramr also added three boards, two steals and a blocked shot. Compton contributed 10 points and five assists off the bench, while
Jessie Pittman also had a strong performance with seven points and a game-high nine boards.
LeTourneau was paced by Ashley's 12-point effort. She also grabbed eight rebounds and had three steals. Manas finished with 10 points, four steals and two assists.
Concordia, which is undefeated against NCAA Division III competition, will host Ozarks on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m.
