Austin, Texas –
Lashanda Luckey racked up 17 points and eight rebounds in a reserve role to lead the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team to a 59-50 triumph over McMurry on Thursday, Feb. 9 at the CTX Field House. The Tornados set an all-time school record by winning their 17th game of the season and matched another program mark for notching their 15th American Southwest Conference victory.
Concordia scored the first five points of the game courtesy of a layup by
Margaret Milling and a 3-pointer by
Brianna Smith in the opening minute. McMurry, however, rallied and was able to take a 17-14 lead when Keshia Collins drained a trey after the War Hawks had tied the game twice. The teams continued to battle back and forth in a half that would feature six ties and two lead changes until
Shamika Singleton broke a 25-all deadlock with a jumper at the 2:05 mark to send the Tornados to the locker room ahead by two.
The Tornados stayed ahead throughout the second half and were kickstarted by Singleton and
Paige Parrish's fastbreak layups in the opening minute. After two free throws by Collins brought the War Hawks to within four, Concordia went on an 8-0 run with four different players accounting for the scoring during the stretch.
A
Madi Hess trifecta before the second media timeout gave Concordia its largest lead of the game at 15 points with 9:38 left. Luckey and Singleton also made layups and Hess converted another three to give the Tornados a comfortable 57-42 advantage with 5:28 on the clock. McMurry came no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
In addition to just missing a double-double of the points-rebounds variety, Luckey added four assists and four steals to pace Concordia in the winning effort. Singleton finished with 10 points and eight boards, while Parrish and Hess added six points apiece.
McMurry (15-7, ASC 13-5) was led by Collins' double-double performance of 14 points and 10 rebounds. She also had a game-high six steals. Jamie Wilson contributed 13 points off the bench, shooting 6-for-7 from the field and 1-for-1 from the stripe.
