BOX SCORE

Alpine, Texas
Andrew Burns went 4-for-5 and Scott Hays hurled seven scoreless frames as the #12/#21 Concordia University Texas baseball team defeated Sul Ross State, 13-5, on Friday, March 23 at Kokernot Field. The Tornados scored 13 unanswered and never looked back.

Collin Janssen started the scoring outburst with an RBI double in the top of the first before the Tornados would add 12 runs over a four-inning stretch. The Tornados broke the game open by putting together their best frame in the fifth, which began with a Kyle Bieschke single that plated two runs. Kyle Rodriguez and Burns added two-run singles in the sixth and seventh, respectively, to give the visitors a double-digit advantage through seven.

After Concordia added three more in the eighth to go ahead by a 13-0 score, Sul Ross State (6-19, ASC 2-5) made a valiant effort to come from behind by scoring five times in the bottom of the ninth. The Lobos scored five times, but it wasn't enough, as Gerry Morrison came in to strike out the only batter he faced to end the game.

Scott Hays picked up the victory for Concordia and improved his record to 4-1 on the year. He threw seven shutout innings, striking out seven batters and issuing just one walk. Sul Ross State's Anthony Trevino suffered the loss and fell to 0-4 by giving up eight hit and five runs, which were all earned, over 4.1 innings.

Concordia (19-6, ASC 5-2) and Sul Ross State will wrap up the three-game series with a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m.
