Meghan Ferrell finished with a combined three RBI on two hits as the Concordia University Texas softball team split a pair of one-run games on the road against Texas Lutheran on Saturday, March 31 at Morck Field. The Bulldogs won the opener, 5-4, before the Tornados took the nightcap by a 4-3 decision.

Texas Lutheran started the nightcap out strong and recorded consecutive hits to plate the first run of the game. Jacobsen hit a leadoff double before being singled in by Gorrie. Concordia came right back and tied the game in the second on an RBI hit by Lauren Vansickle, but the Bulldogs had an answer and went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a single by Barrientos that scored Hope Etes.

Concordia took its first lead of the game on one swing of the bat in the top of the sixth. Ferrell came through with a two-run double to score Jessica Parish and Erin Duhon. Both players reached base on fielder's choice plays. The Tornados threatened to add more by loading the bases when Vansickle singled two batters later, but reliever Megan Carmichael induced a flyout to center to get out of the big jam.

After Texas Lutheran tied the score at 3-all in the bottom of the sixth, Concordia was able to get the game-winning run in the final frame. Duhon hit a single with runners on the corners to score Christina Smith, who reached base on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning. The Bulldogs made a big threat to earn the victory in their last at-bat by loading the bases with one out.  But Teylor Schiefelbein was able to hang on for the win, as Candace Velasquez gunned down Torres at home on a fielder's choice play. Estes grounded out to the pitcher on the game's final play.

Concordia's Schiefelbein picked up the victory to improve to 5-6. She went the distance and gave up seven hits and three runs, which were all earned, while recording one strikeout and issuing three walks. Megan Carmichael suffered the loss for Texas Lutheran after yielding three hits and one run, which was earned, in 1.1 frames.

Texas Lutheran (13-15, ASC 8-8) jumped ahead by a 3-0 score in the opener, scoring once in the first and twice in the third. Upton doubled in the first run before Jacobsen and Torres came through with consecutive RBI hits.

Concordia, however, fought back and took the lead by tallying four runs in the top of the fifth. The Tornados found several different ways to manufacture runs, as Duhon drove in a run on a groundout to the catcher, Jessica Parish and Ferrell hit RBI singles and Vansickle reached on a fielder's choice.

The Bulldogs, however, came right back and scored twice in the bottom of the same frame, which was capped by a bases-loaded walk issued to Gorrie. Concordia had its chance to regain the lead by loading the bases in the sixth, but the visitors could not get anyone home to at least tally the equalizing run before going down in order in the final frame.

Texas Lutheran's Megan Carmichael picked up the victory and improved to 5-7 at the time despite surrendering eight hits and four runs, which were earned, while striking out three. Kat Moreno took the loss for Concordia and fell to 3-6. She allowed eight hits and five runs, which were all earned, in five innings of work and struck out three.

Concordia (8-14, ASC 2-10) will host Sul Ross State for a pair of twinbills on Apr. 6-7.
