Erin Duhon blasted her first home run of the season, but the Concordia University Texas softball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader to Houston-Victoria on Tuesday, Apr. 3 at Burdge Field. The Jaguars are ranked ninth nationally at the NAIA Division 1 level.

After Houston-Victoria scored the first run in the bottom of the third in the opener, Concordia answered right back to tie the game in the top of the fourth. Meghan Ferrell drew a leadoff walk, was sacrificed over to second and reached third on a groundout to short. The junior then scored on an Alex Smith single to left.

The Jaguars, however, took control and put the game away by plating seven runs in the bottom of the sixth. Arredondo delivered the big hit by blasting a bases-clearing triple to deep left center, making it 7-1 at the time, before scoring on a Marley Moehrig single to shallow left.

Houston-Victoria's Dawn Villegas improved to 7-3 by notching the victory after giving up four hits, one run, which was earned, while going the distance and fanning one. Kat Moreno suffered the loss and fell to 3-8 on the year for Concordia. She surrendered seven hits, eight runs, including seven earned. She recorded one strikeout over 5.1 innings.

Houston-Victoria (22-6) scored on the first chance it had in the nightcap, but an Erin Duhon homer in the top of the third that scored Lauren Vansickle pushed Concordia ahead by a 2-1 score.

The Tornado lead did not last long, as the Jaguars regained the lead by tallying three runs in the bottom of the same frame to go ahead by a 4-2 score. Moehring most notably hit a two-run single to left. Concordia had its chances by placing one runner on base in each of the last four innings, but the visitors could not push across any more runs and left the tying run at first base in the seventh before eventually settling for the two-run loss.

Despite yielding 10 hits, Bergstrom was able to come away with the victory and improved her record to 14-3 this spring. Teylor Schiefelbein was tagged with the loss and dropped her ledger to 5-8. She gave up five hits and four runs, including three earned, while also striking out two and not issuing a walk.

Concordia (8-16) hosts Sul Ross State for a four-game series on Apr. 6-7 at Old Settler's Park.
