Brownwood, Texas
– Tresta Donahoo hit a running jumper at the buzzer to give the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets a 79-77 overtime victory over the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team in a pivotal American Southwest Conference matchup on Thursday, Jan. 24 at the Brownwood Coliseum. The Tornados, who were looking to move into a tie for first place in the ASC West Division with the Yellow Jackets, had their season-high winning streak snapped at seven games.

Brianna Smith got the Tornados started off to a quick start in the extra session by draining a 3-point field goal to give the Tornados a 72-69 advantage. Madison Kramr then converted a 3-point play the old-fashioned way by making a layup followed by a free throw to put the visitors ahead 75-70 with 4:03 remaining. But Howard Payne came right back and took a 76-75 lead on a Dana Marrs trifecta. Two free throws by Tyler Compton, however, tied the game at 77s with 49 seconds left and set up what would be a photo finish.

After Howard Payne failed on its next possession to take control on a missed jumper by Donahoo, Concordia had the opportunity to go for the last shot and win the game. Madi Hess, however, lost control of the ball and was whistled for traveling with three seconds remaining to give the hosts one last chance with double overtime looming. Howard Payne took a timeout to plan a desperation play that would start 90 feet away from the basket, and Donahoo made a running 15-footer that barely beat the buzzer and was later confirmed by the courtside monitor for her only field goal of the game.

Concordia (11-7, ASC 8-4) burst out to a 5-0 lead, forcing the host school to burn a timeout at the 17:25 mark after Domonique Liddell put back a missed shot by Madison Kramr. Following the break, the Tornados stayed in control for the rest of the half and did not allow the Yellow Jackets to hit a field goal until Danyel Bradley nailed a jump shot with 14:46 on the clock to make it 7-3. A Kramr layup extended the Concordia lead to double figures at 21-10 before a Compton layup created a 26-13 and prompted another Yellow Jacket timeout. The Tornados stayed ahead by as many as 13 and led 38-29 at the break by getting a layup from Voneshia Williams that beat the buzzer.

Liddell opened the scoring on Concordia's first possession of the second half, but Howard Payne stormed back and took its first lead when Bradley converted a layup that made it 53-52. A seesaw battle ensued, as the rest of regulation featured seven ties and four lead changes. The Yellow Jackets had an opportunity to take control when Kayla Scott was fouled with her team ahead by three, but both of her free throw attempts rimmed out. Kramr then took a pass from Compton and canned a 3-pointer to force overtime with the teams tied at 69.

Howard Payne (15-3, ASC 10-2) was led by Bradley, who posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. She also had five steals. Dillard contributed 22 points and nine boards. Donahoo, the team's leading scorer, netted four points by making two free throws and the clutch shot at the buzzer of overtime.

Concordia was paced by Liddell and Kramr. Liddell finished with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Kramr had 15 points, seven boards and five steals. Smith contributed 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Tornados continue ASC play when they visit Sul Ross State on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 1:00 p.m.
