Brianna Smith matched an American Southwest Conference single-game record by canning 10 3-point field goals in leading the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team to an 82-61 victory over Sul Ross State on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Gallego Center.

Smith, who also set a CTX single-game record for 3-pointers in the program's Division III era, made her first trifecta on the first possession of the game. Concordia found itself trailing 13-10 following a Nicole Murdock trey with 14:42 left, but the squad responded by embarking on a 24-6 run over the next eight minutes to seize control. The run was capped by another Smith 3-pointer. The Tornados stayed ahead by double figures the rest of the way and led by as many as 16 in the frame until a free throw by Tonee Montoya made it 46-31 at the break.

For the second straight half, Smith drained a 3-pointer on the first possession to set the tone for the rest of the game before driving in for a layup less than two minutes later to give the Tornados a 51-26 cushion to work with. The Tornado advantage ballooned to 30 at 70-40 on another 3-point field goal by Smith with just under eight minutes on the clock, and Voneshia Williams put the game well out of reach by making a free throw that created a 77-45 score directly after the last media timeout.

Smith netted a career-high 36 points by shooting 13-for-24 from the floor and 10-for-20 from long range for Concordia, which has won eight of its last nine games. She matched the ASC record for 3-pointers made that was established by Texas-Dallas' Lyndsey Smith against Trinity in November 2010 despite logging in just 15 minutes of playing time. Nadine Fadelle contributed a career-high seven assists and three steals, while Casey Wallace had seven points off the bench.

Sul Ross State (1-18, ASC 0-13) was led by Asrelle Anderson and Montoya, who contributed 22 and 14 points, respectively. Montoya also finished with eight boards and three assists.

Concordia (12-7, ASC 9-4) returns home to face rival Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 5:30 p.m. and will have the opportunity to qualify for the ASC Tournament. Prior to the game, the program will recognize its members of the Adopt-A-Tornado program for all the dedication and support they have provided throughout the winter.
