Tornados clinch postseason berth on Saturday

BELTON, Texas – The Concordia University Texas volleyball team posted a pair of victories to close out American Southwest Conference (ASC) play on Saturday at the Mayborn Campus Center. The Tornados swept LeTourneau and then rallied to knock off Mississippi College in five frames.

Concordia Texas (11-18, 7-11 ASC) also clinched the sixth seed in the upcoming ASC Tournament. It marks the first time since 2000 that the Tornados will be competing in the league's annual postseason tournament.

In the opening match, Concordia swept the YellowJackets (7-24, 2-16 ASC) by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-21. Cassie Dominguez logged a match-high 23 digs and led a defensive effort that limited LeTourneau to a .031 hitting percentage. On the offensive side, CTX hit .212 and Sam Ladewig handed out 17 assists while leading a balanced attack.

The Tornados had to rally from a 2-1 deficit against the Lady Choctaws in the nightcap. CTX won the final two frames to edge Mississippi College in five panels. The Tornados won the match by scors of 19-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-14 and 25-10.

Alison Pringle paced the squad in the final match of the day with 12 winners and a .345 hitting percentage. Dominguez added a match-high 24 digs.

Concordia will return to action on Friday, Nov. 1 when it plays Austin College in Georgetown. First serve is slated for 3 p.m.
