AUSTIN, Texas – Texas-Tyler scored in the opening minute and netted two more goals in the second half to shut out the Concordia University Texas women's soccer team on Saturday at St. Stephen's Episcopal School.
Chestley Strother put the Patriots (10-4-0, 5-3-0 ASC) just 52 seconds into the match with a strike from 25 yards away from the goal.
Neither team was able to break through the rest of the half. It was not until the waning moments of the match that Texas-Tyler added on to its score.
April Goodman scored in the 87th minute and Chana Forstall found the back of the net two minutes later to cap the scoring.
The Patriots outshot the Tornados, 24-4, including a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Meanwhile CTX goalkeeper Megan Frontiera posted a match-high nine saves while allowing three scores on the day.
Her counterpart, Macy Hurley, saved three shots to preserve the shutout.
Concordia will close out the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 31 when it hosts rival Mary Hardin-Baylor at Round Rock ISD Stadium. The Tornados already have clinched a spot in the American Southwest Conference Tournament, but will battle for seeding in the final league match.
