AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas women's basketball team will open its 32nd season of competition on Friday night when it hosts former American Southwest Conference (ASC) foe Schreiner. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. at Concordia Fieldhouse.
The Tornados are under the direction of first-year head coach
Matt Wallis, who spent the last four seasons in the same position with the Mountaineers.
Concordia Texas returns six letter winners from last year's squad that posted a 17-9 mark. Among the returners is junior center
Domonique Liddell, who was named the 2013 ASC West Division Defensive Player of the Year and earned second-team all-league honors. The Tornados also welcome back senior guard
Margaret Milling, who missed the entire 2012-13 season due to injury. The Fort Worth native was named the preseason ASC West Division Player of the Year before being sidelined for the entire campaign.
Schreiner, along with Texas Lutheran, left the ASC for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in July. In their final year in the league, the Mountaineers logged a 9-16 overall record and finished sixth in the ASC West with a 5-14 ledger. Lindsey Peterson returns as the leading scorer after averaging 9.9 points per game and earning second-team all-conference accolades.
Friday night marks the 29th meeting between the two teams since Concordia joined NCAA Division III in 1999. The Tornados hold a commanding 26-2 advantage against Schreiner, and CTX has won eight consecutive matchups.
