AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas women's basketball team will continue its campaign on Friday when it hosts Southwestern. The non-conference tilt is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m. at Concordia Fieldhouse.
The Tornados (1-0) are coming off a come-from-behind 70-63 victory over Schreiner last Friday.
Tyler Compton and
Casey Wallace each netted career highs with 22 and 14 points, respectively, to give CTX head coach
Matt Wallis a win in his debut. Concordia Texas trailed by as much as nine points in the opening frame, but Compton and Wallace fueled a 20-4 run that turned the momentum of the contest.
The Pirates (1-1) split their first two games last weekend. Southwestern opened the year with an 87-78 win over Hardin-Simmons last Friday, but suffered an 83-70 setback to Moravian a day later. Chelsea Leeder (16.5 ppg) is one of five Pirates averaging double digits, while Annie Bourne is leading the team with 8.5 rebounds per contest.
Friday's game marks the 21st meeting between the two teams with Southwestern holding a 13-7 edge in the all-time series that dates back to 1984. Concordia has won five of the last six meetings, but the Pirates posted a 90-86 victory last December in Georgetown. The two teams have not played in Austin since Jan. 5, 1994, when the Tornados netted a 76-66 win at Woltman Gymnasium.
