THE RUNDOWN
AUSTIN, Texas – Tyler Compton scored a game-high 21 points, but the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team was unable to overcome a poor shooting night in a 69-63 loss to Texas Lutheran on Monday at Concordia Fieldhouse.
The Tornados (4-4) shot a season-low 31.7 percent (20-of-63) from the floor, including just 10 percent (2-for-20) from beyond the arc. Concordia Texas' struggles also carried to the free-throw line, where the squad managed to connect on 61.8 percent (21-for-34) of its attempts.
Compton scored 15 of her 21 points in the second half, but was unable to lead the team to the non-conference victory.
The Bulldogs (7-3) trailed 59-54 with 2:40 remaining in the game before Karisa Cantu knocked down six consecutive shots from the charity stripe to give the visitors a lead they would not relinquish.
Cantu finished with a dozen points, including a perfect 10-of-10 showing from the free-throw line. Kristen Lye led Texas Lutheran with 19 points, while Natalie Vella chipped in with 14.
