AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas women's basketball team had its second-half rally come up just short in a 76-72 loss to visiting Howard Payne on Thursday evening at Concordia Fieldhouse.
The Tornados (3-2, 1-2 ASC) trailed by as much as 14 in the first half. However, Concordia Texas chipped away at the lead and was able to get as close as two points in the contest.
The Lady Jackets (4-1, 3-1 ASC) took a 74-70 advantage after a pair of free throws by Yessenia Cazares with 1:01 to play. The Tornados cut it to two when
Domonique Liddell sank two shots from the charity stripe on the ensuing possession. However, after both teams logged came up empty on their next possession, Howard Payne sealed the contest with Danyel Bradley's free thows with four seconds remaining.
Bradley netted a game-high 30 points, while Brittani Gattis collected 20.
Meanwhile,
Tyler Compton scored a game-high 23 points for Concordia, and Liddell added 18 in 21 minutes of action.
The Tornados shot 42.3 percent (30-of-71) from the field, but only 8.3 percent (1-for-12) from beyond the arc.
Concordia will continue league action on Saturday when it hosts Sul Ross State. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
