Austin, Texas –
Nadine Fadelle matched career highs for points, assists and steals in leading the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team to a 102-48 rout of Sul Ross State on Thursday, Feb. 14 at the CTX Field House. With the victory, the Tornados locked up the second seed out of the West Division for the upcoming conference tournament.
After getting a slight scare from the Lobos when Natalie Candelaria made it 6-5, Concordia broke loose by scoring 27 unanswered and was never challenged again.
Brianna Smith had 11 points during the stretch, including a pair of three pointers and a shot from downtown that sparked the run. The Tornados earned their biggest lead of the stanza when
Paige Parrish made a fastbreak layup off a steal that created a 57-17 halftime score.
Concordia, which had a 65-15 advantage in bench points, kept the jets turned on in the second half and got a pair of 3-pointers out of the gates from
Katherine Frost and
Jessie Pittman to go ahead by 46. The lead then ballooned to 50 on a
Madi Hess trifecta that made it 77-27 with 13:27 remaining. Fadelle put the Tornados over the century mark with a layup at the 1:22 mark, and
DJ Vallier sealed the final outcome by canning a free throw.
Fadelle finished with five points, seven assists and five steals for Concordia, which surpassed the 100-point mark for the third time in the program's Division III era and first since defeating Schreiner by a 104-66 score on Nov. 29, 2003. Smith netted a team-leading 13 points, while Frost and
Domonique Liddell scored 10 apiece.
Casey Wallace and Hess finished with six steals and five assists, respectively.
Sul Ross State (1-23, ASC 0-18) was led by Asrelle Anderson's 24-point effort. She also had seven boards and four steals. Alex Ramos contributed eight points off the bench.
Concordia (16-8, ASC 13-5) will wrap up the regular season when it hosts Howard Payne on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. The Tornados' six-member senior class will be recognized after the contest.
