Jessica Parish and Meghan Ferrell each homered and drove in three runs to lead the Concordia University Texas softball team to an 8-4 victory over Southwestern in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at Taylor Sanders Field. The Pirates won the opener by a 6-5 decision to earn the split.

Concordia scored four runs in the top of the first inning to take control in the early going of the nightcap. After Erin Duhon put the Tornados on the board with an RBI single to the pitcher that scored Christina Smith, Ferrell went yard with two runners on base to give the visitors a 4-0 cushion.

Southwestern (3-3) attempted to rally by scoring twice in the third to come within a single run, but the Tornados scored twice in the fourth and sixth to pull away. Parish capped the scoring with a two-run homer to make it 8-4.

Zalysa Perez earned her second victory in as many outings for Concordia by throwing 4.1 innings and allowing four runs, including three earned, as well as six hits. She struck out three and did not issue a walk. Southwestern's Tamara Bellilove was tagged with the loss after giving up three hits and four runs that were all earned over just one frame.

The opener was a back-and-forth battle that featured three lead changes before it was all over. Trailing 4-1 with two outs and nobody on base in the top of the seventh, the Tornados had their bats come alive beginning with a Katie Carrizales single. Afterwards, Christina MartinKat Moreno, Duhon, and Ferrell all followed with RBI hits to put the Tornados ahead by a run for the first time since the second inning. Southwestern, however, came right back and plated two in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with the win.

Moreno, who was named the American Southwest Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week yesterday, suffered the loss and fell to 2-1 by surrendering eight hits and six runs, which were all earned, on eight hits. She matched a career high with eight strikeouts and issued four walks. Tamara Bellilove, who came in to record the last out in the top of the seventh, earned the win to improve to 2-0.

Concordia (4-2) will take more than a week off before resuming action at the ASC First-Pitch Tournament in Farmer's Branch, Texas. The Tornados begin play with a 10 a.m. game against Louisiana College on Friday, March 1.
