Austin, Texas –
Scott Weinschenk and
Ryan Ullmann combined to pitch nine shutout innings on the mound in leading the Concordia University Texas baseball team to a 4-0 victory over Louisiana College in the rubber match of a three-game series on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Tornado Field.
Concordia (7-7) broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third.
Casey Skalaban singled in
Cade Samuelson, who led off the frame with a walk, to put the Tornados on the board before
Garrett Slack doubled the lead by scoring on a wild pitch.
Andrew Burns then provided insurance by singling in Skalaban to make it 3-0. One inning later, the Tornados tacked on their final run on a Skalaban sacrifice fly to right.
Weinschenk picked up the victory for Concordia and improved his record to 2-2 by not allowing a run in seven innings of work. She struck out four, walked three and yielded three hits which were all singles. Ullmann did not surrender a hit or a run over the final two frames. Josh Lang of Louisiana College (3-5) suffered the loss by giving up five hits and four runs, including three earned, in five innings.
Concordia, which has won seven of its last eight games, visits Texas-Dallas for a three-game series next weekend. The first matchup will take place on Friday, March 1 at 2 p.m.
