BOX SCORE

Surprise, Ariz.
Tyler Bain went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in, but the Concordia University Texas baseball team fell to George Fox by a 10-3 decision in the opening game of the Arizona Desert Classic for both schools on Thursday, Feb. 7 at the Texas Rangers Spring Training Facility.

Concordia, which was the visiting team on the scoreboard, quickly got on the board in the top of the first inning. Brent Schaekel drew a leadoff walk and came home two plays later on a single to right by Jon McManemin.

George Fox (1-0), however, answered right back in the bottom of the first by scoring two runs on three hits. Troy Williams put the Bruins ahead by recording his first of five hits in the game before being called out on runner's interference to end the frame.

The Tornados tied the game at 2-all in the top of the second when Quinn Guest came home on a Bain groundout to short, but Bruins added two more in the next half inning to go ahead 4-2 and take the lead for good. After a Bain triple down the line in right plated Stephen Kaminski, the Bruins added one run in the fifth, two in the seventh and another three in the eighth to seal the final outcome.

Scott Weinschenk suffered the loss on the mound for Concordia and fell to 0-2 on the year. He surrendered 10 hits and yielded five runs, including four earned, while striking out two. George Fox's Connor Harris was credited with the win after throwing 3.1 shutout innings of relief. He struck out four, issued one walk and allowed two hits.

Concordia (0-3) will face Pacific Lutheran tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. The game will be played at Desert Edge High School.
