Quinn Guest went 2-for-2 with a triple and four runs batted in to lead the Concordia University Texas baseball team to an 11-1 victory in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Saturday, March 23 at Tornado Field. The Lobos won the opener by a 2-0 decision to earn a split.

Sul Ross State (10-14, ASC 2-4) jumped ahead early in the nightcap by getting a pair of doubles from Turner Mattson and Emmett Crisp in the top of the first, but Concordia came back by scoring seven times in its half of the third. Brandon Hollier tied the score by singling in Casey Worsham with a shot down the line in right before an Andrew Burns single through the right side with the bases loaded plated the go-ahead run.

After a pitching change, Jon McManemin then found a hole on the right side and Guest belted a bases-clearing triple to give the Tornados a 6-1 lead. Tyler Bain sent in Guest on a sacrifice bunt to cap the seven-run inning and provide more than enough insurance for the hosts to win the rubber match of the three-game set.

Scott Weinschenk earned the victory on the mound for Concordia by giving up five hits and one run, which was earned, over five innings of work. He also registered three strikeouts to improve his mark to 4-3. Sul Ross State's Ray Gutierrez took the loss and dropped to 1-5 this season after being lit up for five runs, which were all earned, while surrendering five hits in just 2.1 innings of work.

Earlier in the day, Sul Ross State scored the only runs it needed in the top of the second of the opener. Ely Gallego hit a one-out double to put the Lobos on the board and then came home to double the lead on a failed pickoff attempt by Ryan Ullmann.

After leaving six runners on base over the next five frames, the Tornados threatened to score again in the bottom of the seventh against Lobo hurler Dakota Dill. Casey Skalaban and Bain each drew a walk to start the inning. Cade Samuelson, who came in as a pinch runner, then advanced to third on a flyout to right by Guest. Dill, however, was able to get out of trouble and earn the shutout by striking out Schaekel and inducing a groundout to end the game.

Ullmann was tagged with the loss for Concordia and fell to 2-3. He gave up five hits and two runs, including one earned, while striking out five and walking three. Sul Ross State's Dill improved to a perfect 3-0 this season after giving up only four hits. He recorded seven strikeouts and issued four walks.

Concordia (14-14, ASC 6-3) will visit nationally-ranked Trinity for a non-conference game on Tuesday, March 26 at 7 p.m.
