Kat Moreno registered six strikeouts and Katie Carrizales drove in her seventh run of the season, but the Concordia University Texas softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against first-place Texas Lutheran by scores of 2-0 and 6-1 on Thursday, March 28 at Old Settler's Park.

Texas Lutheran took advantage of two defensive miscues by Concordia to plate each of its runs in the opener. Taylor Yancey drew a leadoff walk, stole second and then came home to break the scoreless tie on an error committed by a Tornado outfielder in the second inning. In the third frame, Ashley Jacobson successfully stole third and then dashed home on a throwing error by the CTX catcher. Pitcher Megan Carmichael kept the Concordia bats quiet the rest of the way to allow the Bulldogs to escape with the win.

Concordia's Moreno took the tough-luck loss and fell to 8-4 despite yielding just two hits and two runs that were unearned. She also fanned six and walked five. Carmichael earned the victory for Texas Lutheran and improved to 8-6 after hurling a two-hit shutout. She also had six strikeouts and issued only two free passes to first.

In the nightcap, Concordia was able to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. After Erin Duhon sacrificed pinch runner Shannon Lanford over to second, Katie Carrizales blasted a single to the left side to drive in the first run of the game.

Texas Lutheran (22-8, ASC 12-2), however, was able to push six runs across with two outs on the board in the top of the sixth and never looked back. Jennifer Garcia hit a two-run single that gave the Bulldogs the lead for good before Grace Estes capped the run with a double to left that pushed another two runs across the dish and sealed the final outcome.

Sydney Coffey suffered the loss for Concordia and dropped to 2-3 this season after giving up 10 hits and six runs, which were all earned, over 5.2 innings of work. Texas Lutheran's Katelyn Sanders picked up the win to improve her record to 12-2. She gave up five hits and one run, which was earned, while striking out one and walking four.

Concordia (15-9, ASC 4-6) and Texas Lutheran will play one more doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at Old Settler's Park. The first game is slated to start at 2 p.m.
