Katie Carrizales blasted a three-run homer to lift the Concordia University Texas softball team to a 3-2 victory over Sul Ross State in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 6 at Lady Lobo Field. The Lobos edged the Tornados by a 2-1 score in the opener to earn the split.

After Ellen Reid tripled and Melissa Cantu hit a bunt single to put two runners on base in the top of the third, Carrizales went yard for the first time of her career to give the Tornados a 3-0 lead in the nightcap. Sul Ross State, however, started to come back by getting a run in the third and sixth innings on RBI hits by Christina Graham and Maile Hoyt. The Lobos loaded the bases with one out in the fourth, but Erin Duhon gunned down the tying run at home and reliever Sydney Coffey induced a groundout to end the game.

Noey Ruiz picked up the win for Concordia and moved her record to a perfect 2-0 this season. She gave up four hits and one run, which was earned, over four frames. Sydney Coffey came in for the final three innings to earn the first save of her career. Sul Ross State's Alexandria Galvan suffered the loss after yielding 12 hits and three runs, which were all earned, while registering three strikeouts and not issuing a walk.

In the opener, Sul Ross State (9-23, ASC 4-12) plated two runs in the bottom of the second to go ahead 2-0. Hoyt and Keri McShan each recorded an RBI single to lead the Lobo offense in the frame. Jessica Parish sliced the lead in half to bring Concordia within one by homering in the fourth inning, but McShan was able to keep the Tornados off the board the rest of the way.

Kat Moreno took the loss for Concordia and fell to 9-6 this season. She allowed seven hits and two runs, which were both earned, and recorded six strikeouts. Sul Ross State's McShan earned the win and improved to 4-11 after surrendering eight hits and one run.

Concordia (18-12, ASC 7-9) will host a pivotal American Southwest Conference four-game series against Hardin-Simmons next weekend at Cedar Park High School. The first game is slated to start on Friday, Apr. 12 at 4 p.m.
